Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10 day long hindu festival, held in the honour of Lord Ganesha. He is the God of wisdom, success and good luck. On Ganesh Chaturthi, people bring the Ganpati idol in their homes, perform pooja, sing aarti, recite various mantras, offer him his favourite shoe-flower (hibiscus) and his favourite sweet modak.
Lokmanya Tilak initiated Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav. In public places, Ganesh idols are placed on the stage in mandap. In our school, we celebrate Ganesh festival by bringing his idol. Children take active participation by singing aarti and songs.
Each day teachers arrange a programme for the children like a drama, story and puppet show. Delicious food is offered to the Lord Ganpati and distributed among the students as Prasad.
On the last day i.e. Anant Chaturdashi day, an elaborate programme is scheduled for the Ganpati Bappa’s immersion. There is an active participation of teachers for this day. Teachers sing bhajan, recite shlokas and play lezim.
Ganpati idol is taken with a big procession to a nearby pond made for immersion.
