Aashadhi Ekadashi

Ashadi Ekadahi celebrated in the month of Shukla Paksha of Ashad month is dedicated to Lord Vithal. Pilgrims known as Warkaris carry images and padukas of Saints in palanquins singing hymns to pay tribute to Lord Vithal all the way to Pandharpur. This procession is known as “dindi”. Similarly, the children dressed in ethnic wear like white dhoti and kurta carry out a procession in school singing along songs and shlokas in praise of Lord Vithal. The girls accompanying the procession dressed in traditional wear carry pots of Tulsi plants. It is a spectacular vision to see the children totally immersed in the religious procession. The children are then treated to sabudana khichdi which they enjoy whole heartedly.
